The Indaba Hotel has a rich history that began as the Little Rose Neath Hotel, a quaint
establishment that exuded a cozy country house ambiance. Originally, it comprised of
just 14 bedrooms, a small bar, and a restaurant.
In the early 1970s, the hotel was acquired by Madame Stetakis, a spirited Greek
entrepreneur. Under her ownership, a function room was added, which is now famously
known as the Ndaba Palace.
After a journey of various ownerships, in 1989, the hotel was sold to Selwyn Hurwitz
and Paul Johnson of Karos Hotels. During the management of Gary Bisset from 1989 to
1994, a new function room named Injabulo was constructed, alongside an additional 88
bedrooms to accommodate growing demand.
From 1994 to 1996, the Epsom Terrace Restaurant underwent an expansion, and the
Siphuza Bar was revamped. Over the subsequent years, the hotel continued to undergo
new ownerships and to expand, adding several amenities including the Kgotla function
venue, 50 additional hotel rooms, a gym, a beauty salon, and Chiefs Boma, an African-
themed restaurant. A significant milestone was marked by the launch of the well-known
Mowana Spa on the hotel grounds through a joint venture.
Today, the Indaba Hotel remains a thriving establishment, with plans for further
expansion including the upcoming Indaba Lodge, which will introduce an additional 170
hotel rooms. With its storied past and commitment to growth, the Indaba Hotel stands
as a testament to resilience and evolution in the hospitality industry.
